Established in 1974, this organization in a short span of three decades has become one of the leading Islamic Centers in North America.
A source of guidance and knowledge, it is a center catering to the needs of Muslims in the Greater Toronto Area, helping Muslims fulifll their Islamic obligations and spiritual needs. What started out as a small prayer hall in the basement of the house, became known as madinah Masjid.
This property, located at 1015 Danforth Avenue, was purchased in 1984 at the cost of $750,000.00. In 1990, the organization successfully negotiated an unique contract with Memorial Gardens, for a exclusive burial plot at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Pickering. This agreement, based on Islamic ways and traditions, include seven days access to the cemetery.
In 1991, the Masjid also undertook a renovation project for the basement of the building, which included construction of facilities necessary for burial preparation, including ghusl (washing the body of the deceased).
With the rapid growth of the Muslim population in the Greater Toronto Area in the 90's, created a high demand for prayer space, classrooms for madrasah and services.
In 1995, with the help and generosity of Muslims, Madinah Masjid undertook a three story expansion south of the main hall which has been completed.
The added space has allowed the masjid to accommodate the increasing number of worshippers. This expansion is especially vital in times of festive days such as Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, Friday prayers and other occasions.
